Here is a beautiful fan shishu (Japanese embroidery). These were presented by the Japanese Embroidery Guild and there also was a display where you could learn how these were created and even watch as they worked on an in progress one. It sure looked like a lot of precision work is needed to create one of these but the results make it worth all the effort.

Here is an example of Bunka Shishu (Japanese embroidery).  This is a technique that goes back to the turn of the 20th century. It uses a specialized needle and rayon threads to create detailed pictures that some liken to oil paintings.

Drummers from Ryusei Taiko entertain the crowd at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii’s 2016 New Year’s Ohana Festival.  Taiko’s consist of a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. The performance consists of an ensemble playing a rhythmic beat on various drums.
