Stepped into the greenhouse at Foster Botanical Gardens Midsummer Nights Gleam and came across the Spider Orchid. This is native to the Caribbean and Central and South America. It has elongated thin petals that resemble spider legs. It is actually pollinated by large wasps called tarantula hawks who mistake the flowers for spiders and repeatedly sting and try to drag the flower away.  This act is called pseudoparasitism. Just one of the many things you can learn on a visit to the gardens.
