Continuing my vacation journey at the Oregon Zoo we hit theĀ  Reticulated Giraffe. This is a subspecies that live in the open woodlands and wooded grasslands in Somalia, northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. They are earths’ tallest mammals and can grow to 18 feet tall. The feed on flowers, fruits, herbs, leaves, seeds, new shoots and vines. A male giraffe can eat an astounding 75 pounds in a day. Three male giraffe are at the Oregon Zoo. Bakari born in September 2007, Riley born on August 2003 and Desi born in September 2010.
