Here in Hawaii there always is a crowd and buzz with the opening of a new eating place.  I was happy to be invited to a preview of the food at Japanese restaurant Iyo Udon which grand opened at Ala Moana Shopping Center on Saturday. This is the Osaka based chain first United States location and puts it in competition with the popular Marukame Udon. They are known as Iyo-seimen in Japan where they have 30 locations and one in Korea.  Bowls of noodles start at an affordable $3.75 and goes up to he large Ontama Niku Bukkake Udon (Udon noodles mixed with half boild egg and seasoned beef) which is show in the photo. A wide variety of tempura sides (maybe shown in the photo) and musubi range from $1.25 to $1.75. I found the udon to be delicious and among the favorite of the sides I tried where the shrimp tempura, fried chicken, sweet potato and the mixed vegetable ball.
