Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese art of fish printing that originated in the mid 1800’s. From gyo “fish” + taku “rubbing”. The paint is applied directly to the fish and skillfully transferred to paper creating amazing one of a kind works of art. The artwork above is by Naoki who defines Gyotaku as “a time honored, traditional Japanese art, that is captures on a piece of shoji paper for the keepsake of the family, and friend, and fishers to come.”
