In case you missed the Xtreme Bugs exhibit at the Bishop Museum this week I’m recapping some of my favorite displays. Here is the Japanese Hornet. The display is so huge it dwarfs the car behind it. You can also hear sound effect of the buzzing hornet. A single Japanese giant hornet can kill 30 European honeybees a minute so a small gathering of these can kill an entire 30,000 member colony in a few hours.

Today we begin our series on the Xtreme Bugs exhibit that was at Bishop Museum.  Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts I was unable to run this series before the exhibit ended, however they have a new Life Through Time: Dinosaurs and Ice-Age Mammals exhibit currently running.  This is the Red-Eyed Devil Katydid with its trademark huge red eyes. This insect has “Xtreme Jaws” strong enough to crush even the hardest insects which it feeds on. Beware they can also bite people when they are threatened. Originally from Europe but they can also be found in Asia and North America.

We end the week with a beautiful golden sunset taking at Ala Moana Regional Park on the island of Oahu.  Its been a fairly long week at work so I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend and hanging out with some friends I haven’t seen in awhile. I hope everybody has a great weekend too.
