We continue our Hawaii Blog salute to the 2010 Olympics by looking at the Gastown Steam Clock.  Located in the Gastown district of Vancouver, this clock incorporating a steam engine and electric motors displays the time on four faces.  Every house the cock plays the Westminster Chimes and every 15 minutes it whistles with a gush of steam (as pictures).  It is one of Vancouver’s most photographed attractions.  While styled to appear as a 19th century antique it was built by Canadian horologist (horology by the way is the art or science of measuring time) Raymond Saunders in 1977.  To learn more about how the clock works click on the Gastown Steam Clock.
