Today we begin our series on the Backyard Monsters: The World of Insects display currently at the Bishop Museum through September 2009 at the Castle Memorial Buildings. This exhibit by Adventure Edutainment has won the prestigious endorsement of the American Entomological Society and appeared in places such as the Field Museum in Chicago and the Science Museum of Minnesota. This first picture is of a giant Monarch Butterfly coming in near 12 feet and flapping its wings up and down. These are seen in Hawai and make long migrations to avoid winters in colder climates. You can learn more about them here. Our series continues with the tarantula.
