This is a picture of Diamond Head taken from Waikiki Beach taken over the Memorial Day weekend. This was taken from a walkway that protruded out into the ocean allowing me to get this shot while surrounded in water. I liked the contrasts between the blue ocean, white sandy beach, green tress and mountains and blue sky.

We end our Memorial Day series with this picture taken from Punchbowl which shows the American flag flying over the city with Diamond Head in the background. It took quite awhile for the wind to blow into right direction to fram this shot but I think it has a nice dramatic effect. This was taken from the top lookout point at the cemetery.

Each Memorial Day Shinnyo-en leads the Lantern Floatin Hawaii ceremony at the Magic Island portion of Ala Moana Beach Park. For the past 10 years thounds of lanterns have been floating out ot sea on Memorial Day to remember those who gave their lives in conflict and also for families to remember friends and relatives who have passed away. This year an estimated 40,000 people gathered for this event and thousand more watched it on live TV on KGMB. Over 4,000 lanterns with candles floated off Magic Island bringing a fitting end to the Memorial Day weekend.
