Jeff Gere and Kathy Collins tell the Japanese Obake (ghost) story of Okiku and the Nine Plates.  Ghost stories in Hawaii were popularized by Hawaiian historian Glen Grant and are popular around Halloween in story festivals and haunted ghost tours.  Other popular story tellers are Lopaka Kapanui, Rick Carrol  and Alton Chung.  To find more material about Hawaii and Japanese ghost stories visit check visit our Global Hawaii Blog Bookstore.

Welcome to Halloween week here at Global Hawaii Blog.  Here we find some Oompa Loompa’s last sighted at the Pacific Guardian Tower’s Halloween costume contest.  Through the week we will look at a mix of some spooky and some costume pictures as we celebrate Halloween in Hawaii.

The beach is always a nice way to end the weekend.  This picture was taken at Malaekana Beach Park.  It was once aPuuhonua (Place of Refuge) and today is a Hawaii State Park and also one of the nicest campgrounds in Hawaii.
