Koinobori (Carp) fly at a house in Hawaii for Children’s Day. The top carp represents the father, the second the mother and the third their children. It is a national holiday in Japan and widely celebrated in Hawaii as a day to respect children’s personalities and to celebrate their happines. Mochi (rice cakes) are commonly eaten on this day. This was formerly known as Boy’s Day with Girls Day on March 3.
