Wie leads US to Solheim Cup Victory
Michelle Wie had a banner weekend and proved that she was a good
selection for the US Solheim Cup team by going 3-0-1 to lead the
US to a 16-12 victory over Europe. Juli Inkster said "I
would bet you a large amount of money that Michelle will win
before the year is out." If she keeps playing with the
confidence and skill she showed this week hopefully her first
LPGA tour victory will happen sometime soon. On day 1
teamed up with Morgan Pressel they tied with Catriona Matthew
and Maria Hjorth of Europe in fourball. Day 2 teamed with
Christina Kim in fourball they beat Helen Alfredsson & Tania
Eloegui 5 and 4. Also teamed with Cristie Kerr in
foursomes they beat Anna Nordqvist & Maria Hjorth 1-up. On
day 3 Wie defeated Helen Alfredsson 1-up in a singles match.

Wie in contention at SBS Open
Call her the rookie in her fist LPGA tournament as a card
carrying member of the LPGA Michelle Wie is tied for the lead
going into Saturdays final round when she will tee off at
10:50am. Despite 35-mph winds Wie shot a 2 under par
70 to share first place at the SBS Open at the Turtle Bay course
on the North Shore of Oahu with Angela Stanford. This is
her 48th LPGA start but the first as a card carrying members.
She has made over $25 million in endorsements and won over
$800,00 since turning pro just before her 16th birthday but has
yet to win a LPGA tournament. Her last win as at age 13
when she captures the U.S. Womens Public Links Championship
though she does have 13 top-10 finishes including finishing in
the top give at three majors in 2006 before she was injured.
Michelle Wie earns LPGA tour card
Michelle Wie has been playing LPGA Tour events since she was in
the seventh grade. In fact she played in 62 tournaments in
that time 53 of them by exemption or invitation drawing hug
galleries. After a rough year Wie is back because the next
time she golfs she will have her very own LPGA card. Wie
finished tied for 7th at the Q-School and earned the right to
play the LPGA Tour in 2009 and hopefully put the past year
behind here. Wie says "I play whenever I want now, not
when I have to play, or only in six tournaments... I can pick
and choose".
Michelle Wie to kick off 2008 with Fields Open in Hawaii
Michelle Wie will start her first 2008 tournament in Hawaii for
the Fields Open at the Ko Olina Golf Club. She will join
Annika Sorenstam and defending Fields Open champion Stacy
Prammanasudh. Wie has been working hard on her golf game
and will return from an injury plagued 2007. Wie had 6 top
five finishes in 2006 but injury led to a disastrous 2007 which
she will hopefully put behind her and return to winning form.
She also plans to take the spring semester off from Stanford to
concentrate on the LPGA and playing in multiple tournaments.
Good luck Michelle!
LPGA Championship 2007
Michelle Wie still nursing
her injuries played 2 rounds without using her driver in a gutsy
performance trying to overcome her injury. She made the
cut to continue her streak of 13 LPGA majors making the cut but
finished last in the four day competition.
Ginn Tribute 2007
Michelle Wie returned to play
after a four month absense due to injuries to both wrists.
In a controversial decision Wie was 14 over par through 16 holes
and withdrew from the tournament citing her injuries.
Prior to the withdrawal LPGA rules officials were seen talking
to team Wie about the Rule of 88 which states that if a non-LPGA
member shoots a score of 88 or more they would be banned from
LPGA events for the remainder of the calendar year.
Michelle Wie and Sony Open
2007
Michelle Wie, Hawaii's golf
superstar, was again invited to play in the PGA tour even, The
Sony Open, at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sadly Michelle missed the cut by 14 strokes and aggravated in
injury to her wrist that would plague her for months to com.
Michelle Wie accepted to
Stanford
Michelle Wie has been
accepted into Stanford University and said she will enroll in
the fall. Says Wie, "Now that I got into Stanford ... it
was one of my dreams, and I want to go through with it. I
definitely want to go there and really try to graduate."
